COMMITTEE UPDATES – 29/07/2025

Good Afternoon…Following the debate on the What’s-app group over the weekend, there were some comments made which require a response.
1. The Committee has for the first time in the history of the Marina, monitored the expenditure on Water and can identify the real cost of water. The first week when we put up the Water sub meters, we identified some tremendous leaks. We now monitor water usage weekly to understand the usage and plan for budgetary purposes. We feel that we now control this and have on two occasions invoiced members for water pilfering or wastage. WE ARE WORKING ON YOUR BEHALF TO LOWER COSTS.
2. Water costs the Marina approx. £8 per 1000 litres (1 ton). We are now supplying Super Yachts, (although water charges are different to the Marina charges) and this produces some small profit when they take water but of late there is very little movement on this.
3. We are now embarking on changing all pontoon lights to the new LED lights which consumption will be much less. We will also do an overall exercise on the requirements with a view of cutting back costs. Marina Public lighting costs approximately £1200 per month.
4. The Constitution clearly sets out in Rule 2e of the objectives that the Committee has to “(vi) Set and collect a water usage and an electricity usage fee from members to ensure all the water and electricity costs on the pontoons installation are covered. In the initial months from start-up, no charge will be set up, pending knowledge of typical consumption.” This cost will be taken to the EGM to see which is the best way forward on this.
5. We believe that we will have made substantial savings from the £35,000 in 2023 or almost £38000 in 2024 which was almost £55 per member. We still have to see the new electricity cost kick in. Figures will be taken to the EGM.
It is unbelievable that in analysing what the Committee said last week in its update, these efforts seemed to go unnoticed and although the Committee do not need” pats on the back”, the work that is being done to control wastage and expenditure has to be recognised. Anybody that feels he is under threat, must be doing something wrong himself because all this NEW Committee has done since it came into office, is get the Marina back on track to BEING A MARINA THAT FOLLOWS ITS CONSTITUTION AND BYE LAWS.
